Many years ago the man dreamed in knowing other planets and also the oceans, with all

its infinite variety of a marine life full of mysteries, from a tiny nudibranch to a great whale

hoping to being explored!!!

At the present time Caribbean Seafari Dives make this dream now a reality, we have the

great privileged and the oportunity to learn and know more and more about thease wonderful

creatures, the Scuba Diving is the main activity that has allowed us to get close this Majestic

World.

The Mexican Caribbean is one of the most privileged sites for its great diversity of marine

life and colorful coral reef formations, all this has placed it in one of the favorite sites of the

Divers Worldwide, their warm waters and incredible visibility left unforgettable memories that

the Divers will keep in their hearts for all their entire life, that is why we have seen them return

time and time again to live those incredible experiences.

What´s more there are the old sacred sites of the Mayans, located all around the Yucatan

peninsula and Quintana Roo: The Cenotes (the natural fresh-water wells) real amazing places

for their crystalline waters and their stalactites, stalagnites formations and also fossilizations which

make each Divers that visits them to fall in love this adventure, so what are you waiting come and

join us!!!.....

LION FISH INVADES THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN!!

Aside from the rapid and immediate mortality of marine life, the loss of herbivorous fish also

sets the stage for seaweeds to potentially overwhelm the coral reefs and disrupt the delicate

ecological balance in which they exist, according to biologist and scientists.

Following on the heels of overfishing, coral bleaching caused by global warming, the lionfish

invasion is a serious concern, The study is the first to quantify the severity of the crisis posed

by this invasive species, which is native to the tropical Pacific and Indian Ocean and has few

natural enemies to help control it in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is believed that the first lionfish  (a beautiful fish with dramatic coloring and large, spiny fins)

were introduced into marine waters off Florida in the early 1990s accidentally or no, They have

since spread across much of the Caribbean Sea including Cuba, Mexico and possible Belize,

There is reports about this fish appearance in Cancun, Cozumel and the Golf of Mexico, just few

days ago in the coral reefs of the Mayan Riviera divers capture one lionfish, this is something

unusual. This is a new and voracious predator on these coral reefs and it's undergoing a population,

The threats to coral reefs all over the world were already extreme, so it is time for us to get

Ready to work and help the ecosystem, to monitor the reefs and this fish to make sure what

will be the real impact of this species.

These fish eat many other species and they seem to eat constantly, scientists determined that

lionfish reduced young juvenile fish populations by 79 percent in only a five-week period. Many

species were affected, including cardinal fish, parrotfish, damselfish and others. One large lionfish

was observed consuming 20 small fish in a 30-minute period.

The lionfish are the most spectacular family members. They have a warning coloration of red

and White, very long dorsal fin spines, and greatly enlarged pectoral fins often reaching past

the anal fin. All species possess venomous spines and a sting produces extreme pain.

The lionfish it is found singly or in groups in fringing coral reefs, the hunting strategies of this

voracious fish are amazing. While most species use their venom in defense or for hunting.

In the Pacific Ocean, other fish have learned to avoid them and they also have more natural

predators, particularly large groupers, In the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean native fish have never

seen them before and have no recognition of danger.

Because of their natural defense mechanisms they are afraid of almost no other marine life.

And the poison released by their sharp spines can cause extremely painful stings to divers.

I like to finish with this, it is very important to create measures of control and monitoring in

our reefs, to evaluate the risks to the biodiversity and establishing one better integration and

cooperation between social, private and government institutions, the solution is not to exterminate

this fish, we have to find the way to control it and that it must not sacrifice it…….

The Sea Turtle returns to the Mexican Caribbean/ Endangered Species

The Mexican coasts are among some of those privileged as home to the Sea Turtle,

endangered species.  From the Golf of Mexico and Caribbean to the Pacific coast can

be found many different species of Sea Turtle including one of the largest in the world,

the Laud Turtle and that which we know the least about. The Loggerhead, Carey,

Green and White Turtle are magnificent creatures that have inhabited the planet Earth

for millions of years. Today divers, ecologists, biologists and others interested in the

environment are committed to helping conserve this magnificent creature which due to

non-sustaibnable fishing practices and the trafficking of eggs and turtle shell is now

endanger of extinction.

Each year from June to September different species of Sea Turtle return to the beaches

of their births after having passed through a difficult process of survival. Only a very few

turtles born each year will reach maturity and it is on these beaches that the life of this

ancient and majestic animal begins.

The arrival of Sea Turtles to the Mexican Caribbean is an unmatched event. They

normally come to the beach by night and to have the privilege to observe this natural

wonder is indescribable. When the beaches are found totally calm and only by the light

of the moon and the stars looking out to sea as an immense shadow approaches, the

Sea Turtle! They start to climb up the sand until they leave behind the breaking of the

waves and find a suitable spot to lay their eggs. After a long time of digging a hole they

lay approximately 100 eggs; and so begins the spawning process. After all eggs have

been laid the turtle covers the hole and returns to the ocean where it will travel to

different reefs and parts of the sea. On the beach the eggs begin their period of maturation

that lasts approximately 6o days. At this point the small turtles hatch and start to make their

way out of the sand to begin the journey of their life against the many adversities and

predators they will face at each step until they reach the sea where they will fight the

survive, grow, and return themselves to the place that nature chose for them to be born and

so continue their cycle of life.

Help us to conserve this species by maintaining the beaches clean and by not contributing to

their killing or the sale of their eggs and meat.

Also when you visit the reefs whether to dive, snorkel, or just traveling by boat remember that

if you only observe and don't touch this marvelous species will allow you to get to know it and

you can share your experience with the world!

The government, individuals, ecologists and NGO's have implemented and are participating

in programs to protect this species. For example the creation of National Marine Parks, the

monitoring of beaches during spawning season. It is very important that we create a

consciousness about this natural miracle that we still have the privilege to observe. So if you

travel during the spawning season to these beach sites don't forget that you can enjoy the

arrival of a huge turtle spawning or to a mountain of little turtles being born right in front of you!
